Achievement Award Information

The purpose of the Beta Gamma State Achievement Award is to honor a member who has demonstrated outstanding service at the state level, enthusiasm and leadership, and who has promoted the purposes and policies of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
The nominee shall be an active chapter member of Beta Gamma State. She shall have demonstrated a leadership role in Beta Gamma State. Members may be nominated more than once but may receive the award only once. The state president is not considered for the award during her term of office.
The Second Vice President of Beta Gamma State shall send nomination forms to all chapter presidents by November 1, prior to the state convention or workshop. Nominations must be returned no later than February 1. Nominations may be made by any member, but nominations must be signed by three members of Beta Gamma State. The selection committee shall be composed of the Second Vice President of Beta Gamma State who shall serve as chair, and three members, one from each of the three geographical areas of the state, appointed by the State President to serve for one biennium. The award shall be presented only when the committee selects a qualified recipient, not necessarily on an annual basis.
The Beta Gamma State Achievement Award shall be presented to the recipient by the Second Vice President of Beta Gamma State. The award shall be presented at the final banquet of the state convention or at an appropriate event at the workshop. If the recipient is not in attendance, her chapter president shall present the award to the recipient at the next chapter meeting. The recognition shall consist of a certificate and the Achievement Award Medallion.
The Beta Gamma State Achievement Award winner’s name shall be placed in a sealed envelope and given to the State Secretary at either the Executive Board meeting or the General Membership meeting, so that the winner’s name can be entered in the official minutes.

Good evening, Sisters! It is my honor as your 2nd Vice President to present the DKG Achievement Award.

First, I would like to thank my committee: Jackie VanDaff, Eta, Amy Budge, Omicron, and Katie Kennedy, Beta. Well done, ladies!

This biennium’s recipient has been a member of DKG for 24 years. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree, specializing in special education. She retired after 30 years, but then continued to substitute and tutor students.

During her tenure with DKG, she has served as Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer. In her current capacity, which she has held for 14 years, she has conducted numerous workshops and seminars for incoming and long serving officers, at the chapter and state level. She has also served on her chapter’s communication and financial committees, as well as the State financial and ad hoc Rules Committee; multiple times in each capacity.

Our worthy sister has also been involved in her community, serving on the board and president of Little Bears Playhouse. She has been instrumental in the fundraising for a new building for this outreach. She has been named Volunteer of the Year in her community and designated Grand Marshal of the annual Forest Fair parade.

This year’s awardee’s strengths are her friendliness, commitment, leadership, knowledge, energy, professionalism and grace. I am pleased to present the State Achievement Award of 2024 to our very own State Treasurer, Joan Lower of Eta Chapter. Congratulations Joan!!
